Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara praised the Aboitiz Foundation for its continued efforts to improve education in the Philippines, particularly through programs aimed at reaching underserved communities. Angara highlighted initiatives such as AuroraPH and the Aboitiz Future Leaders program, which have helped create lasting educational solutions for both students and teachers, especially in remote areas.
In his remarks, Secretary Angara emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving meaningful educational reforms. “Aboitiz Foundation has demonstrated unwavering dedication to providing quality education for the Filipino youth, particularly in underserved and remote communities,” he said.
“Public-private partnerships accelerate our impact on learners and teachers. By working together, we can create enduring solutions that ensure a brighter future for Filipino children.”
The AuroraPH program, which aims to address connectivity challenges in remote schools, exceeded its 2024 goal by connecting 11 schools to the internet through solar power, surpassing the original target of 10. The program is set to expand in 2025, with plans to connect 100 more schools nationwide. These efforts are part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to addressing energy and connectivity issues in rural areas.
Meanwhile, the Aboitiz Future Leaders program continues to support Filipino youth by providing scholarships to 50 students currently enrolled in universities. The program plans to expand in 2025, adding 100 new scholars.
The Aboitiz Foundation’s work extends beyond education, with a focus on job creation and climate action. Its Elevate AIDA program empowers women by providing training in artificial intelligence and data annotation, while its CarbonPH initiative promotes reforestation and watershed recovery. The Wasteless Campaign advocates for sustainability and recycling.
Through its multifaceted approach, the Aboitiz Foundation aims to align with national development goals and contribute to long-term social and environmental sustainability. The Department of Education also recognized other Aboitiz Group initiatives, such as those from City Savings Bank, AboitizPower’s Therma South Inc., and Visayan Electric, for their positive impact on communities across the Philippines.
