Brooke Van Sickle of Petro Gazz is making a strong case for a second straight Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.
The Filipino-American winger has been putting up consistent numbers to help the Angels surge to the top of the standings in the preliminary round.
Van Sickle displayed her fine form with an all-around performance six games into the 2024-25 season-opening tournament.
Her stellar outing powered Petro Gazz to a 5-1 win-loss record before the league took a month-long holiday break.
“I’ve been here for almost a year now. This is the best time I’m ever having. This is where I want to be. This is where I dream to play and I’m having a blast,” said Van Sickle, who won MVP in her debut conference early this year.
The 26-year-old open spiker has collected 131 total points or averaging 21.8 markers per game to sit behind league-leading scorer Sisi Rondina of Choco Mucho, who has a total of 134 points after six outings.
She’s been spiking with 37.7 percent attacking efficiency and is currently tied with Chery Tiggo’s Aby Maraño at second spot in landing service winners with 0.40 aces per set. Cignal setter Gel Cayuna is hitting 0.53 aces per game to top the department.
Van Sickle is also making a big impact on the defensive end with superb net and floor defense.
The 5-foot-9 Angels standout is third in blocking with a norm of 0.70 kill blocks per frame, trailing behind PLDT middle blockers Majoy Baron (0.89) and Dell Palomata (0.78).
Van Sickle is just one of the two non-liberos in the digging department’s top 10, placing sixth with 3.15 digs per set. Cignal’s Dawn Macandili-Catindig is lording over the skill with an impressive 5.06 digs per set.
The Petro Gazz main gunner has also been passing well with a 22.94 percent efficiency in reception.
Van Sickle is expected to maintain the same production when the Angels resume action on 21 January against Chery Tiggo at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
