LAOAG CITY — A shooting incident in the early hours of Wednesday left one man dead in Barangay 5, San Pedro, along Rizal Street, near the parking area of a convenience store.
The victim, identified as Andres Tungpalan Daquioag, 59, a resident of Barangay 19, Laoag City, was seated on his blue and white Mio 125 motorcycle parked in front of the store when he was shot.
According to an initial investigation, an unidentified male suspect approached from the west and fired two shots at the back of Daquioag’s head using an unknown caliber of firearm. The suspect immediately fled westward after the attack.
Responding personnel from the Laoag City Police Station (CPS) rushed the victim to the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, but Daquioag was declared dead on arrival at 12:45 a.m. by Dr. Franky Albano.
The Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered two fired cartridges believed to be from a caliber .45 firearm. Laoag CPS has since launched a hot pursuit operation and is extracting CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify and apprehend the suspect.
The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the motive behind the killing and the identity of the gunman.
