The Senate on Wednesday announced it has tightened its security following a bomb threat posted on its Facebook account on 17 December.
“While the threat is not considered credible and serious, the Senate leadership has nonetheless taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all senators, its employees, and visitors,” Senate spokesperson Atty. Arnel Jose Bañas said in a statement.
Bañas said the Senate Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms (OSAA) implemented additional security measures to safeguard employees and visitors.
Security and police personnel thoroughly inspected the Senate premises, he added.
“We had also instructed our Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms to work closely with concerned agencies regarding the matter,” Bañas noted.
"The safety and security of everyone in the Senate is our utmost priority. Please bear with us while we enforce safeguard measures."
He said updates on the matter will be provided as soon as they become available.
