The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) announced on Tuesday that it is investigating jail guards who allowed an impostor posing as a judge to visit an inmate at the Payatas jail facility.
BJMP spokesperson Supt. Jayrex Bustinera confirmed that an investigation is underway and that administrative charges will be filed against any personnel found to have committed lapses during the incident.
The incident came to light after a lawyer representing a homicide suspect accused BJMP guards of negligence. The suspect, accused of beheading a security guard on Christmas Eve at a car showroom, was visited by an individual claiming to be Quezon City Regional Trial Court Judge Louie Brian Sze.
The impostor allegedly attempted to extort P200,000 from the detainee in exchange for a favorable court ruling.
The lawyer expressed concern over the incident, stating that it undermines the integrity of the judiciary and could potentially harm the reputation of the detainee. The lawyer questioned how the impostor was able to enter the jail without proper verification.
