Authorities reported on Monday that operatives from the Bureau of Customs (BoC) arrested the recipient of a package containing high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of P1.4 million pesos at the Central Mail Exchange Center.

District collector Yasmin Mapa said agents from the Bureau of Customs-Ninoy Aquino International Airport (BoC-NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Force discovered the illegal drugs inside a package declared as “clothes” that originated from Thailand.

The 1,002-gram shipment of kush was discovered after rigorous profiling by the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service, screening by the X-Ray Inspection Project, a K9 inspection and a physical examination.

Mapa said the recipient and the confiscated drugs were turned over to the PDEA for inquest proceedings for violating Republic Act 9165 (the amended Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Republic Act 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).

She added the BoC-NAIA will continue to secure the country’s borders and prevent the smuggling of illegal substances that endanger public safety.

In other news, a fire broke out at a high-rise condominium building in Ortigas Center, Pasig City on Monday afternoon, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection.
