President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to enhance child protection and cybercrime prevention through advanced training for police personnel.
Marcos issued the instructions during a command conference with top PNP officials at the PNP Multi-Purpose Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
During the meeting, Marcos emphasized the importance of the PNP remaining "proactive and vigilant" in addressing emerging challenges across the country.
Recognizing the growing threat in the digital landscape, the President highlighted the need to equip the PNP with the skills and tools necessary to combat cybercrime effectively.
Marcos also underscored that “no crime is worse than the exploitation of children,” urging the police force to intensify efforts to protect the youth from all forms of abuse and exploitation. This directive aligns with his administration's commitment to safeguarding vulnerable sectors of society.
Additionally, Marcos instructed the PNP to prioritize peace and order, focusing on the safety of travelers, minimizing traffic congestion, and facilitating smooth public activities during the holiday season. He stressed the need for heightened vigilance during this busy period.
On anti-drug efforts, Marcos called for sustained coordination with other government agencies to ensure the effectiveness of anti-drug operations. He reiterated the importance of a comprehensive and unified approach to tackling the persistent issue.
PNP chief General Francisco Rommel Marbil assured Marcos of the police force’s dedication to implementing his directives.
“We assure President Marcos of our full support as we implement these priorities to strengthen peace and security across the nation,” Marbil said.
He added that the Command Conference underscores the PNP's commitment to upholding its mandate and aligning operations with national priorities, contributing to the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas.
