Airport officials are urging the public to avoid carrying firearms or ammunition when traveling to prevent flight delays and potential legal consequences.
This comes after the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has recently intercepted several instances of passengers carrying prohibited items at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
OTS administrator Undersecretary Crizaldo Nieves stressed that all passengers will undergo standard security screenings and those found with ammunition or other illicit materials will face legal action.
“Bringing ammunition into airports may only cause inconvenience with their flight, so we urge the traveling public to avoid carrying any of it,” Nieves said.
The OTS chief reiterated that carrying ammunition can lead to significant flight delays and legal repercussions. While recognizing that recent incidents were isolated, Nieves stressed the importance of avoiding unnecessary risks.
“It’s better not to take the risk, as passengers caught carrying live rounds of ammunition, regardless of the quantity, will face appropriate legal consequences,” he added.
Passengers planning to travel with firearms and ammunition are advised to follow specific guidelines, including obtaining necessary permits from law enforcement agencies and adhering to airline regulations.
