“Serve others with compassion and humility.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on millions of Catholic faithful to emulate the Virgin Mary on this day as the nation celebrates the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
The feast, observed every 8th of December, has been an important event for Filipinos, especially for the Catholic Church.
The Virgin Mary is the Principal Patroness of the Philippines, as declared by Pope Pius XII in an Apostolic Letter on 12 September 1942.
According to Marcos, it is a day of profound significance that honors the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the life of Jesus Christ and God’s plan for humanity’s redemption.
“It holds great meaning among Catholics and invites an opportunity for all people of faith to reflect on the themes of grace, purity, and devotion,” he said in his message.
He emphasized that religion and faith continue to foster a sense of community and belonging in a constantly changing world.
“[It] plays a central role in helping us navigate the complexities of life,” he said. “It offers stability, purpose, and hope — pillars that contribute to the mental, emotional, and spiritual health of every Filipino.”
He also urged Filipinos to “lead and embrace” the journey toward holiness and remain connected through a common aspiration to live a life filled with integrity, devotion and love.
“I pray that this day brings meaning to us all,” he noted.
