Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga has emphasized the Philippines’ strong commitment to addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

She said that as one of the most climate-vulnerable nations, the Philippines is particularly aware of the need to move beyond frameworks and commitments and turn them into tangible, actionable solutions.

This was the backdrop for the Philippines hosting the 4th board meeting of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FrLD) at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

The primary goal of the FrLD is to provide financial support to developing countries that are most affected by climate change, helping them address the loss and damage they face from extreme weather events, sea-level rise and other environmental challenges.

One of the key discussions at the meeting was the importance of establishing a bottom-up, country-led approach that strengthens national responses to loss and damage. The approach ensures that countries are empowered to design and implement solutions that are most suited to their local needs.

The meeting also focused on the operationalization of the Fund, including the creation of a new, dedicated secretariat and the development of procedures that make the Fund accessible and impactful.
