West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is nearing completion of its CAMANA (Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas) Water Reclamation Facility, with construction now 83 percent finished to date.

“We are pleased to share that the construction of our largest wastewater treatment facility, the CAMANA Water Reclamation Facility, is nearing completion,” Maynilad president and CEO Ramoncito S. Fernandez said on Tuesday.

“This project is part of our commitment to investing in infrastructure that expands sewer coverage and creates cleaner and healthier communities,” he added.

The P10.5-billion facility, located in Maypajo, Caloocan City, is designed to treat up to 205 million liters of wastewater daily.

Once operational, it will provide improved sewerage services to approximately 1.2 million customers in South Caloocan, Malabon and Navotas, significantly contributing to the cleanup of Manila Bay and enhancing the health of local waterways.

Starts next year

The CAMANA facility is expected to be operational by 2025, adhering to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Water Quality Guidelines and General Effluent Standards of 2016.

It will employ Modified Ludzack-Ettinger-Conventional Activated Sludge technology to efficiently remove pollutants from wastewater before safely discharging it into the Maypajo Creek, a tributary of Manila Bay.

Additionally, Maynilad is installing 77 kilometers of sewer pipelines to collect wastewater from households and establishments in the three cities and convey it to the facility.

The CAMANA facility is part of Maynilad’s broader initiative to enhance its wastewater management capabilities.

The company currently operates 23 wastewater treatment facilities, which collectively process 684 million liters of wastewater per day.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in terms of customer base.

It serves as the concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, encompassing portions of Manila and Quezon City, as well as the cities of Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon in Metro Manila; and Cavite City, Bacoor, Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.
