Agatha Wong of Wushu is contemplating whether or not she will compete in the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand next year due to her studies.

Wong, who performed during Game 1 of Season 100 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Sunday, said she will decide by January next year on what will be her next move.

The 26-year-old Wong is currently studying medicine at the University of the East-Ramon Magsaysay Medical Center in Quezon City.

‘I’m still on the fence about it.’

“I haven’t decided yet because I’m really conflicted. Because last time I went to Cambodia, it was a very stressful time for me and I was only in first year then,” Wong said.

“Next year, I’m going to be in my third year. I’m just hoping that by January, I can make a decision.”

In the 32nd SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Wong clinched a gold medal in the women’s Taijijian + Taijiquan events in her first year in studying and that she had to take a leave of absence.

If she does that again, Wong said it would last the entire year, making the decision for next year all the more crucial.

“I’m still on the fence about it. When you take a leave of absence, it’s one whole year,” Wong said.

“Honestly, I’m having a hard time in the SEA Games because next year, I’m going to be in my third year in medicine so I don’t know how that will work.”

“I’m still deciding if I’ll combine my studies and compete in the SEA Games, or if I’ll take a leave of absence.”
