The camp of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KoJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy is seriously considering withdrawing their appeal against his transfer from the Pasig City Jail.
Atty. Israelito Torreon, Quiboloy’s legal counsel, said it may be pointless for them to continue fighting the transfer.
“But it seems like it’s useless to fight it. It looks like the prosecution really wants him there. So we’ll just take it as it is,” Torreon said.
In November, Quiboloy was transferred from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame to the Pasig City Jail.
His lawyer sa id the Pasig court has yet to act on their motion for reconsideration, and they believe they might be wasting resources if they continue to insist on it.
“We might just be wasting a lot of papers if we insist. Our only concern is his security. We felt that he would be more secure in Camp Crame, given the threats against him,” the lawyer said.
On 8 November, Quiboloy was taken to the Philippine Heart Center after complaining of chest discomfort on 7 November, but his condition is now “normal.”
Quiboloy is facing a non-bailable, qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of Republic Act 9208, as amended.
He is also facing charges under Section 5(b) and Section 10(a) of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
Torreon was at the Department of Justice to attend a preliminary probe on the complaint filed by former President Rodrigo Duterte against former Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and others.
Last week, Abalos filed his counter-affidavit in response to the complaint, calling the charges baseless.
Torreon stated that some complaints filed against KoJC members in Davao were refiled before the DoJ. The lawyer said the next hearing for both complaints is scheduled for 16 December.
