Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad), the West Zone concessionaire of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), has been recognized as one of the world’s 28 “climate smart utilities” at the 2024 International Water Association (IWA) Climate Smart Utilities Recognition held in Toronto, Canada. This prestigious recognition highlights Maynilad’s commitment to sustainability and climate action, placing it among the global leaders in water and sanitation services.

The IWA honored Maynilad for its innovative and forward-thinking strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change. These include reducing water losses, expanding wastewater services, boosting water production to ensure a reliable supply, and implementing sustainability programs. The company’s long-term goal of achieving “climate neutral by 2037” reflects its dedication to creating a resilient water sector that can adapt to environmental challenges.

Out of 92 applications submitted by utilities worldwide, Maynilad was one of 28 recognized for its exceptional efforts, making it a standout utility in the Philippines and across the globe. The recognition underscores Maynilad’s role in leading the way toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.

"Being recognized by IWA as a ‘climate smart’ utility affirms our commitment to addressing the challenges of climate change," said Maynilad Chief Sustainability Officer Atty. Roel S. Espiritu. "This is a testament to the hard work of our team and our continuous efforts to implement sustainable practices that ensure water security for future generations."

The IWA, a global network of water professionals, promotes innovative and sustainable water management practices across the world. Its Climate Smart Utilities Recognition program celebrates utilities that are not only addressing current challenges but also pioneering solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Serving a vast customer base, Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines under MWSS.
