PLDT Inc. has launched a new hybrid modem, one of the first of its kind globally, designed to seamlessly switch users from fiber to LTE during service downtimes for uninterrupted connectivity.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Jeremiah de la Cruz, senior vice president and head of the Home Business Group at PLDT, said the modem is equipped with unlimited LTE as a backup, with speeds reaching up to 1 Gbps.
“In the event of a service interruption, you don’t need to worry about losing access to the internet. Even with a severed cable, you will stay connected and continue your online activities with minimal disruption,” Dela Cruz said.
Auto service repair ticketing
One of the modem’s features is its automatic service repair ticketing system. When it detects a service disruption and switches to LTE, the device automatically files a repair ticket, sparing customers the need to manually report outages.
“We wanted to create a product that was responsive to the needs of our customers. We believe this will help elevate the internet standard in the country,” Dela Cruz added.
