Blackwater veteran guard Baser Amer will be testing the free agency as his contract is set to expire by the end of the year with the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner's Cup still ongoing.
Amer's representative Danny Espiritu told DAILY TRIBUNE that they had already talked to Blackwater team manager Johnson Martine for an early release before his contract lapses on 31 December.
"We requested for his release so that teams will have an opportunity of getting him," Espiritu said.
Even after the expiration of Amer's contract, the Bossing can still hold on to his rights for a month.
Blackwater, which won only one of nine games and is likely to get eliminated early, only has two remaining games in January next year.
Should Amer get his release early, he'll have an opportunity to get signed by a team that will compete in the playoffs.
DAILY TRIBUNE has asked several teams about the possibility of having Amer on board but were reluctant to acquire the stocky but shifty guard.
However, this could change once the 31-year-old point guard becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Once considered as one of the league's premiere point guards, Amer's progress was impeded by various injuries.
Phoenix coach Jamike Jarin could only hope for the best for his former San Beda University ward.
"I still feel Baser is among those elite point guards, but was saddened as his development was slowed down by injuries," Jarin said.
"I could only wish him well in his future plans," the Fuel Masters mentor said.
