The Manila Doctors Hospital has recently commemorated the fifth anniversary of the passing of its group chairman, Dr. George SK Ty, as it also celebrated the life of Dr. Ty's life as a remarkable businessman, leader and philanthropist.
Ty passed away on 23 November 2018 due to pancreatic cancer. He was 86.
Last 21 November, officials and personnel of the MDH highlighted Dr. Ty's enduring contributions to healthcare and education and through this, the MDH and GT Foundation Inc. awarded scholarships to five deserving fourth-year nursing students at the Manila Tytana Colleges.
The scholars were Julianne Irish Capili, Julia Mikaela Idanan, Shyna Mitchelle Lutap, Neshianne Taugan and Gemmaria Torres.
MDH president Arlene Ledesma said that the scholarship is a way to make quality education in a valuable career more accessible to those who may be facing challenges in their studies.
"This gathering also honors Dr. Ty's contributions to healthcare and education with the turnover of the scholarship grant that would benefit student nurses from the Manila Tytana Colleges and Manila Doctors Hospital," Ledesma said.
"Dr. Ty's desire to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos has endured in various forms, and his legacy remains fully alive today, [i]n the healthcare services provided by the Manila Doctors Hospital and in the quality education and training given by the Manila Tytana Colleges," she added.
"The GT Foundation-Manila Doctors Hospital's scholarship grant is our way of making quality education in a valuable career more accessible to those who may be facing challenges in their studies," Ledesma stressed.
Ledesma also expressed gratitude to the family of Dr. Ty for their generosity and continuing support.
"We are truly grateful for this opportunity to spread his legacy and uphold his commitment to education. His love and passion for service will always be our inspiration in contributing to education. It may have been five years since Dr. Ty passed, but his memory will always burn bright. Let's continue his mission with service and compassion in our hearts," Ledesma said.
Meantime, the GTFI executive director and Metrobank Foundation Inc. president Ancieto Sobrepeña stressed that the GFTI-MDH scholarship is a reminder of Dr. Ty's legacy in emphasizing the importance of education and healthcare.
He also urged the scholars to not only excel in their studies but also live out the values and principles exemplified by Dr. Ty.
Also included in the event was the recognition of the five nursing assistants from the MDH Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program who also received the same scholarship grant.
