Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday dismissed the alleged falling out between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte, who ran together as "UniTeam" during last year's elections.
In a chance interview, Senator Imee clarified that Marcos' alliance with Duterte and her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte remains solid.
"I believe that the principals—my brother and me, the vice president, and PRRD—will never fall apart," she told reporters.
"I think there are just some who are causing trouble," she added.
When asked her whom she was referring to, Senator Imee answered: "I don't know. You are the ones in the Congress. You listen to various departments. You monitor, we just read it in the news."
On Tuesday, President Marcos said Vice President Duterte does not deserve to be impeached, ending the alleged efforts to oust the younger Duterte.
"We are monitoring it closely because we don't want her to be impeached," he said. "She does not deserve to be impeached so we will make sure that this is something we will pay very close attention to."
On the same day, Duterte reaffirmed that she believed she still has the trust of President Marcos.
"We're okay," she said in a separate interview. "I believe that I still have the trust of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr."
Duterte, however, acknowledged the reported impeachment efforts against her by lawmakers at the House of Representatives which is led by Marcos's cousin, Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The decision by the lower house to deprive Duterte-led agencies such as the Department of Education and the Office of the Vice President of confidential funding for the upcoming year added to the expense of the development.
Such a decision did not sit well with former president Duterte, Duterte, who accused the lower chamber of being the "most rotten organization."
Earlier this month, Romualdez took an indirect swipe against the former president in the resumption of sessions at the House of Representatives by stressing that he would "stand and fight against anyone who scares us into following what they want."
The lower chamber also condemned Duterte for threatening the life of ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro, whom he linked as part of the communist rebel group New People's Army.
The following day, the House leadership stripped off the deputy speaker titles from former President now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and Davao City Representative Isidro Ungab.
Arroyo and Ungab are both allies of Duterte.
