DavNor politics heats up: Board member vows to put governor in jail

TAGUM CITY — Davao del Norte politics is already heating up despite almost two years before the midterm polls in 2025.

In his privilege speech at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan held recently, 2nd District board member Orly Amit vowed to put Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib in jail after the latter accused him in a press conference Sunday night of allegedly getting money from government coffers.

"If you cannot prove that I have been stealing money from the government, I will have you taste jail, mark my word governor. What is your problem now is how to prove that I have embezzled funds from the government," Amit in his privileged speech warned.

The local legislator was clueless about why he was being attacked by the governor, saying he couldn't remember any instances or reasons that he earned the ire of Jubahib. Amit further defended himself and even challenged the governor to go to Samal Island to learn how he crafted his name in politics and nurtured it through the years.

Amit revealed that the only time he spoke against the governor was his reservation over the confidential funds of the latter in a meeting of the local finance board. He said that he made sure that the governor would know that he had reservations about the P105 million per year confidential funds of the chief executive.

To recall, Jubahib held a conference the night before the BSKE 2023 urging voters not to support the endorsed candidates of political rivals, Davao del Norte Vice Governor Oyo Uy, Congressman Allan Dujali, and board member Amit since they will become thieves once they win and hold the positions.

The statement of Jubahib triggered the privileged speech of Amit expressing his dismay and even labeling it as "uncalled for."
