Chargers claim second straight win

Akari came back from a set down to turn back Farm Fresh, 21-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-21, for a second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference Thursday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Grizzled veteran Dindin Santiago-Manabat willed the Chargers to their third win in four games with a solid outing. The 6-foot-2 winger hammered down 19 kills and landed three aces for 22 points.

Akari turned the table around in the extended second set, showing nerves of steel to recover from a 23-24 deficit. The Foxies committed back-to-back errors to surrender the set point advantage to Akari before Faith Nisperos completed the escape with a kill block.

With momentum on their side, the Chargers took control of the next two frames to pluck the two-hour, three-minute victory.

"It's always good to win no matter how. I'm very proud of them," Akari coach Jorge Souza De Brito said after his wards pulled through despite a shaky start.

"I'm really confident in these guys. This is only the beginning."

Nisperos added 15 markers with all but one coming off kills and had six excellent receptions, Fifi Sharma chipped in 14 markers while Erika Raagas got 13 for the Chargers, who came off a four-set win over F2 Logistics last Tuesday.

Farm Fresh remained winless in four starts and dropped their ninth straight overall since joining the league in the mid-season Invitational Conference.

Trisha Tubu paced the Foxies with 24 points coming from 18 spikes, four kill blocks and two aces.

Kate Santiago fired 15 points, Rizza Cruzhad 11 markers while setter Louie Romero dished out 20 excellent sets in a lost cause for Farm Fresh.
