Traditional dances, chants, songs and artistic expressions of the indigenous peoples of Mindanao will take centerstage at the Rawaten Cultural Extravaganza at the Metropolitan Theater, Manila this coming 6 October, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
This extraordinary spectacle will feature various performing arts groups from Mindanao State University campuses, totaling approximately 150 performers highlighting the ethnolinguistic groups within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Performers include Kulintang Masters and Onors, Kalimutan Cultural Dance Troupe, Sining Pananadem, Darabgan Cultural Dance Troupe, Sining Ghendawan Ensemble, Gandingan Cultural Dance Troupe, Sulu Performing Artists, Tambuli Cultural Dance Troupe and Sining Kambayoka Ensemble.
The repertoire are as follows: "Langit: Dalogdog ug Kidlat," featuring Kapagonor and Kakolintang and showcasing the mastery of kulintang artists from Mindanao; "Ulan: Gasa sa Langit," featuring Higaonon and Manobo dances; "Ranaw: Kaanyag ug Kalinaw," where graceful Meranaw dances mirror the tranquil waters; "Suba: Tinubdan sa Kinabuhi," presenting dances from the Subanen and Maguindanaon communities; "Ragat: Gakos sa Kinaiyahan," showing the mimetic and playful dances of the T'Boli and Blaan; and the encore, "Si Pilandok," about the central character of Pilandok, a legendary figure from Meranaw folklore hailing from the mythical realm of Agamaniyog.
