In the past few years there seems to be a growing concern for tray cats and making sure thay are fed and that ther needs are met. The concern for cats have come from communities that have set up feeding places and shelters for them.
Now, for the first time in the country a CatCon, sponsored by Biyaya Animal Care Foundation and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is in the works for better information. The event will be held on 18 July at the Meralco Mini Theater, B1 Lopez Building, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig.
Rina Ortiz of Biyaya Foundation will discuss “The rise of community cat welfare in the Philippines while lawyer Anna Cabrera of PAWS will handle “Protecting the Unknow: Law and Advocacy for community cats.“
Other speakers include Martha Subido-Herrera (PAWSLY); Jeanne Carmel Puertollano (DLSU PUSA); Michelle Caguioa (Meralco Foundation); Dr August Michael Basangan (Las Pinas City Veterinary Services Office).
Community cat groups and TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) proponents will gather for a one-day conference dedicated to sharing experiences, best practices and strategies for creating safer communities for cats.
There are breakout session for thos interested in getting involved with cat welfare in the country as well as fundraising events for community cats.
