LTO vows to address issue on overloaded trucks

Land Transportation Office Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II on Friday committed to address the perennial problem of overloaded trucks that are usually seen in the provinces.
Mendoza said the LTO will strengthen the collaboration with other government agencies, such as the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group to address the issue.
In a meeting with the PNP–HPG, Mendoza mentioned that the issue of overloaded trucks was raised to him by Senator Joel Villanueva who mentioned overloaded trucks passing in Bulacan and Pampanga.
"Sinabi ko, 'ay Sir (Senator Villanueva) tamang tama may meeting kami ng HPG, isasama ko na 'yung concern niyo para ma-aksyunan na namin 'to.' Although we'll make it more consistent, kasama na sa ating operation plan on a month-to-month kung saan tayo magi-implement ng overloading kasi mayroon diyan eh, seven tons kase 'yung… nagreklamo ang NLEX kase 'yung truck 30 tons," Mendoza said.
Overloaded trucks pose a danger for all road users since they are more prone to mechanical problems like loss of brakes and even their drivers losing control of the vehicle.
These incidents usually cause fatal road accidents for other road users.
Mendoza said stricter inspections and monitoring will be made in order to prevent the passing of these overloaded trucks.
The PNP, for its part, said it would give instructions to the regional directors to address reports and complaints on the overloading trucks.
Mendoza warned that those who would not follow the rules on this will be apprehended and sanctioned.
