Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) reported the arrest of an Indian national wanted in the country for rape.
The BI-NAIA officials identified the suspect as Jacob Manoj Paul Chempalakunnil, a 50-year-old male who attempted to depart the country on 8 September via a Jetstar Asia flight bound for Singapore.
Chempalakunnil was accosted by the BI officers after they found his name in the BI's database of individuals with criminal records. He was allegedly the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by Branch 220 in Quezon City. Chempalakunnil was ordered to be arrested without bail.
Upon confirmation of his identity, immigration supervisors immediately facilitated his transfer to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to effect his arrest.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco warned all wanted criminals who would attempt to depart the country.
Tansingco said that, as a policy, courts forward to them orders barring the travel of individuals who have a warrant of arrest or a hold departure order. Upon receiving the orders from the courts, the BI immediately included these individuals in their derogatory records.
