Lawyers told: No one is above the law

Supreme Court Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa rallied members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines that they are duty bound to uphold the law as no one is above it, particularly lawyers.
Caguioa, who also chairs the Supreme Court Sub-Committee on the IBP Oversight, pointed out the crucial role of lawyers in upholding the rule of law and achieving honest and effective justice, guided by the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability.
During his keynote address at the 2nd Investigating Commissioners' Summit of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Commission on Bar Discipline recently at the Manila Prince Hotel in Ermita, Manila, Caguioa called upon the 144 new Investigating Commissioners, reminding them that those responsible for ensuring fairness and justice must not delegate their sense of right and wrong.
Caguioa expressed gratitude to the Investigating Commissioners on behalf of the Court and encouraged them.
"The fruit of your labor is an essential precondition for any truly good society, where the welfare of the many comes first and the rule of law prevails," Caguioa said.
