Sedrick Barefield is again foregoing his chance to see action in the Philippine Basketball Association after striking a deal with the Fubon Braves in the P.League+ in Taiwan.
Barefield's local agent Marvin Espiritu told Daily Tribune that it was his international agency, Intrusive Sports, which made his return to the Braves possible.
He, however, clarified that the 6-foot-2 Barefield is still very much open to see action in the PBA.
"It was his international agency that made that deal now," Espiritu said in a telephone conversation on Saturday.
"But this goes to show that he won't be joining the PBA — for now."
After playing for the Oklahoma Blue in the National Basketball Association G League, Barefield was supposed to join the PBA Rookie Draft a few years ago.
He, however, wasn't successful as he couldn't secure the needed documents that would make him eligible to join the draft.
He tried again last year and loomed to be a strong contender to become the top overall pick. But he signed up with the Braves, a three-time champion that had established a dynasty in the premier commercial league in Taiwan.
Barefield's last stint was with the Bay Area Dragons in the East Asia Super League Champions Week.
With Barefield out of the coming Rookie Draft, Fil-Am prospect Keith Datu and Lawrence Domingo are favored to be selected on top.
The decision of teams, however, could change depending on the decision of 6-foot-8 Justin Baltazar, who is now campaigning for the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.
