A microscopic handbag modeled after Louis Vuitton's OnTheGo handbag has been sold for $63,750 at auction.

The tiny bag, designed by Brooklyn-based company MSCHF which is known for creating bizarre and outrageous products, was sold alongside a microscope.

"Smaller than a grain of sea salt and narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle, this is a purse so small you'll need a microscope to see it," MSCHF claimed.

Measuring 657 x 222 x 700 micrometers, the bag was made using two-photon polymerization—a manufacturing technology used to 3D-print micro-scale plastic parts.

"(T)his is the final word in bag miniaturization. As a once-functional object like a handbag becomes smaller and smaller its object status becomes steadily more abstracted until it is purely a brand signifier," MSCHF said.

The sale was hosted by online auction house Joopiter, which was founded by American record producer and designer Pharrell Williams, who currently serves as Louis Vuitton's creative director.
