President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has appointed Richard "Dickie" Bachmann as the new Philippine Sports Commission chairman, Press Undersecretary Cheloy Garafil confirmed to reporters on Wednesday.

Prior to his appointment, Bachmann served as the commissioner of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines basketball tournaments.

A former De La Salle University basketball "Green Archers" team player, he worked as an Alaska team manager and governor.

He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Business Management.

Bachmann replaced Noli Eala, who only headed the government's sports agency for about four months.

Eala previously served as commissioner of the Philippine Basketball Association for four seasons. Prior to being a commissioner, he was a sports commentator from the early 1990s until the 2000s..
