The Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group warned the public to be more cautious against "clickbait" or scam online sellers who are working "double time" due to the impending effectivity of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the newly-signed SIM Card Registration Law.
PNP-ACG spokesperson, Lt. Michelle Sabino, said online criminals are now using every bit of modus that they can to benefit from the bonuses or 13th-month pay of employees through online schemes before the 27 December IRR implementation.
"Yes we have been receiving a lot of complaints lately, the criminals are doing everything and every means to try and trick people, and generally they are doing everything — swindling, estafa, online buying or online selling, even investment scams," Sabino said in a radio interview.
She said people should be more careful in spending their bonuses.
"Because it's Christmas, may bonus and capacity to spend or purchase, it is higher than normal for them (online scammers) to attack during these times," Sabino added.
The SIM Card Registration IRR will put an end to the majority of scammers.
"If (the SIM is) registered, their scamming world will become smaller, because they can be easily identified unlike now, they are hiding under the anonymity of the web," she said.
