The best revenge is to move on — but not for rape victim in Vivamax’s remake of Bata Pa Si Sabel.
This completely different 2022 version, with a script by Brillante Mendoza, follows Micaella Raz as young bride Sabel on a honeymoon with husband Bryan (Benz Sangalang). Three men barge into their suite and sexually assault Sabel in the presence of a hapless Bryan.
The attackers kill the couple — or so they think, since Sabel miraculously survives and shows up in an isolated island.
She meets Mang Nestor (Julio Diaz), an ex-military officer convicted of murder. With his help, Sabel seeks out her attackers for revenge.
The original Bata Pa Si Sabel, released in 1981, starred Snooky Serna in the title role, with Albert Martinez and Joel Alano as her two suitors. There was no rape or violence — just a story of a young provincial lass’ innocence and confusion in romance.
The 2022 version mark’s Raz debut starrer. She previously appeared in Mendoza’s Virgin Forest.
In a media conference, Raz said she underwent training for the action stunts which she enjoyed doing. As for the love scenes, she said it was hard but napadali siya from the guidance of director Reynold Giba and her senior co-actors.
Bata Pa Si Sabel streams on Vivamax. The cast includes JC Tan, Rash Flores, Chad Solano, Angela Morena, Gardo Versoza, Carlene Aguilar, Katya Santos, and Rey PJ Abellana.
