The Commission on Appointments on Wednesday approved the ad interim appointments of Ivan John Uy, Raphael Lotilla and Renato Solidum as secretaries of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Energy, and Department of Science and Technology, respectively.
Uy was confirmed a day after the CA's Committee on Information and Communications Technology referred his confirmation for approval of the plenary.
During his confirmation hearing on Tuesday, Uy assured members of the CA of more seamless elections in the future, including the possibility of online voting through the use of blockchain technology.
Prior to his appointment, he served as the chair of the now-defunct Commission on Information and Communication and Technology under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III.
Meanwhile, after two suspensions on his confirmation hearing, Lotilla has finally secured the approval of the powerful CA.
During his confirmation hearing, Lotilla assured lawmakers of independence while taking the helm at the Energy department.
This comes after Sagip Rep. Rodante Marcoleta brought up his previous stint in the Aboitiz Power Corp., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures known for power distribution, generation and retail electricity services.
This is the second time that Lotilla will head the Department of Energy after holding the energy portfolio during the Arroyo administration.
Likewise, the CA also approved the ad interim appointments of Solidum as the DoST chief.
Prior to his appointment, Solidum served as the agency's undersecretary for disaster risk reduction-climate change adaptation and for scientific and technical services.
He also served as the director of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Likewise, the CA also approved the ad interim appointments of 60 foreign service officials of the Department of Foreign Affair, including the agency's former chief Teodoro "Teddyboy" Locsin Jr.
Locsin was appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as Ambassador of the Philippines to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland last August.
