The Manila International Airport Authority disclosed on Wednesday that MIAA general manager Cesar Chiong has mandated an extensive investigation into the alleged use of fake access passes at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to facilitate human trafficking attempts following the Senate hearing on the trafficked overseas Filipino workers in Myanmar.

The MIAA said that the airport authority's contracted security guards in NAIA Terminal 3 thwarted attempts by four passengers, posing as employees of an airport concessionaire, to bypass immigration formalities and leave the country on four separate occasions.

They have been endorsed to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking for disposition.

The MIAA's decision stemmed from the calls of Bureau of Immigration commissioner Norman Tansingco to investigate the rising cases of attempted trafficking involving the use of fake NAIA access passes.

The BI chief also ordered BI Port Operations Division chief Atty. Carlos Capulong to coordinate with the MIAA to request a thorough investigation on the said incident.

Tansingco raised the urgency of the concern after hearing that another victim was intercepted by airport authorities.

He added that they are now investigating several victims of a trafficking syndicate that entices Filipinos to work abroad as call center agents, only to be transported to a third country to work as online scammers.
