Geraldine Roman dives into vlogging
Published on

More and more politicians are now foraying into vlogging or maintaining vlogs, aside from their social media accounts. Representative from the first district of Bataan, Geraldine Roman, is also launching her own YouTube channel and program, "Geraldine Romantik."

Roman came to prominence when she was elected in 2016, becoming the Philippines' first transgender congresswoman, and she has been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in legislation. The 55-year old solon, now on her third term, currently chairs the Committee on Women and Gender Equality in the House of Representative.

According to Roman, she thought of creating a vlog so people may know more about herself and how a legislator works. The videos will also promote her home province of Bataan, explain LGBTQ+ issues and feature her travels as well as food.

In a recent post on one of her social media accounts, she explained the title: "Romantik ako dahil (I am romantic because) I value the time I spend with the people I serve. Pinapahalagahan ko ang bawat kwento na kanilang ibinabahagi sa akin at patuloy akong maninindigan para sa kanilang karapatan para sa maginhawang buhay (I value each story they shared to me and I continue to stand up for their rights for a comfortable life)."

The vlog will debut on 30 November at 7 p.m. with a two-part introduction video. The maiden videos tell about her family, a prominent political clan in the Tagalog province; her education in the Philippines as well as in Spain, where she finished two masteral degrees at the University of the Basque Country; and about being transgender.

New episodes, about eight to 10 minutes each, will be uploaded weekly and will eventually tackle her other advocacies and projects such as Oh My Gulay! Healthy Na, May Kita Pa Program, Farm to Market Road Project and basic digital literacy training as well as show a more intimate side of a public figure.
