I turned a year older yesterday, 11-11-2022.
A milestone year is about to end, which to me is a remarkable achievement, a fruitful and productive journey. I was able to produce the Energy Regulatory Commission's 25th anniversary
coffee-table book in time for the end of the term of then chair Agnes VST Devanadera which is my 44th book in 24 years. My 45th book which I just wrapped up is titled Asian Heroes 2022. I personally chose all my 50 heroes for their sterling qualities as remarkable human beings. It took three years to complete this book (2019 to 2022) because the Covid pandemic hit us between our eyes and it disrupted our timelines for photo shoots and interviews of the featured subjects. But the Holy Spirit never left my side and today I am truly jubilant and humbled to be able to launch my 45th book and pay tribute to my chosen Asian heroes.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, at the age of 60 and upwards, the brain is no longer as fast as when we were 20 years old. However, it wins in flexibility. This is the reason we seniors make better decisions, arrive at the best solutions for the issues and challenges we face and are less prone to negative emotions. This is due to the increased production of myelin, which is a substance that facilitates the rapid passage of signals between neurons. This action allows the brain to work at full strength with positive results. Due to this myelin, our intellectual abilities increase by 300 percent.
The peak of active production of myelin falls between the ages of 60 to 90 years old. With this brain movement, seniors can use two hemispheres while allows us to solve complex problems seamlessly.
Back to my writing journey: I have decided to pay tribute to 50 exemplary men and women who with their collective actions produce positive change that continues to create ripples of good and kindness that makes for a brighter, kinder, happier and benevolent world for all of us.
With a grateful heart I would like to thank my family — my children, Aristoncito, Aryssa Maria, their partners Jhana Bunag and Bigz Abadilla, and my grandchildren Aidan Matthew, Adam Isaiah, and Alon Hiraya who altogether, daily inspire me to create my books and pursue my advocacies with fervor and dedication
To the amazing heroes featured in my 45th book, know that I truly honor, respect and appreciate your cherished friendships as you all light up my life, give a smile to my lips, a glint in my big eyes and the sprint in my every step. I pray that you all continue to do the good that you do fearlessly with pure intentions.
Life is beautiful and I thank God that He has given me all the gifts I have to touch the lives of many with the power of the written word. I therefore challenge everyone to live life to the fullest. Dance to the beat of life's challenges. Sing to our heart's content. Connect with friends. Join worthy causes. More importantly enjoy family time and make every moment count because it is the life in our years that matter most and what we do with those moments make us fulfilled, happier, and healthier human beings.
