Yulo finishes 7th in floor exercise

A slip early on in his performance cost Carlos Yulo a gold medal after landing in 7th place in the men's floor exercise at the 51st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Saturday evening (Manila time).

Yulo slipped after failing to land a two-and-a-half to a double front pike at the beginning of his routine, which gave him a dismal 13.3 points in seventh place.

This was a far cry from his 15.226-point performance in the qualification round and the 15.166-point all-around final score on the floor.

Giarnni Regini-Moran of Great Britain won the country's first gold in the floor exercise after tallying 14.533 points.

Recently-crowned men's all-around champion Daiki Hashimoto placed second with 14.5 points while teammate Ryosuke Doi plucked a bronze medal after his performance garnered 14.266 markers.

Yulo's last chance for a podium finish will be Sunday evening (Manila time) in the men's vault and the men's parallel bars.

The pride of Leveriza, Manila will defend the men's vault title he won in last year's edition of the World Championships in Kitakyushu, Japan.
