Chief Insp. Eusebio B. del Rosario Jr. is the new head of the Bureau of Corrections public information office, replacing Chief Supt. Atty. Julie May C. Taguiam.
BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag, former spokesperson, confirmed yesterday Del Rosario's appointment by BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr.
Catapang, former Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff, took over the post of BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag who was placed under 90-day preventive suspension on 21 Oct. after the death of Cristito Villamor, who according to self-confessed gunman Joel Escorial is the alleged middleman in the murder of radio commentator Percival Mabasa, known as Percy Lapid.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla earlier said the Department of Justice is in the custody of seven people who claimed that Villamor's death was not an accident but planned.
Results of the autopsy conducted by Dr. Raquel Fortun on the remains of Villamor showed that the latter died of suffocation due to a plastic bag over his head, contrary to the initial report of the BuCor claiming there was no foul play involved because no signs of physical injuries were found on the body.
Remulla said they are in the process of piecing together testimonies of several people to complete the narrative of the killing of Lapid and Villamor for the filing of the case by the NBI and PNP.
