The Philippines and Japan renewed their commitment to further enhance military relations and according to Department of National Defense Arsenio Andolong, both countries have exchanged views on regional security challenges following the three-year suspension of their "Military-to-Military" dialogue.
The Philippines and Japan finally conducted the 9th "Military-to-Military" dialogue on 21 October in Manila after the key defense officials found a "mutually convenient date" for them to meet.
The dialogue was co-chaired by DND Assistant Secretary for Strategic Assessments and International Affairs Henry A. Robinson Jr. and director general for International Affairs Miura Jun of the Ministry of Defense of Japan.
Also discussed by the officials were the Philippines and Japan's respective updates on defense policies.
Robinson said that the DND's perspective on the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea while Miura Jun discussed the security updates on the East China Sea and in Korean Peninsula.
They likewise reviewed the overall progress of Philippines-Japan defense cooperation and tackled the security situation in the Euro-Atlantic.
