The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development broke ground for a new housing project under the "Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino" program in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City on Friday.
The Bagong Sibol high-rise project will see the construction of 10,000 housing units intended for minimum wage earners and government workers living in the city, according to DHSUD.
DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar led the launching of the sixth Pambansang Pabahay project as he said that the government's target to resolve the country's 6.5 million housing backlog is "definitely possible."
"This will not be easy, but definitely possible, as we are already making significant strides in making this happen," Acuzar said during the groundbreaking ceremony attended by local officials.
The housing czar revealed that DHSUD had signed housing project agreements with the local governments of Mariveles in Bataan, Quezon, Bacolod, Roxas and Iloilo.
