The recent gathering of PDP Laban stalwarts should not be construed as preparation for the 2025 elections, according to party secretary-general Melvin Matibag.
"It is only a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the party as well as the election of officers among PDP Laban and should not be given malicious interpretation," he said.
Matibag made the remark during the virtual forum "Balitaan sa Tinapayan" Sunday.
While admitting that whenever politicians meet, talks of the election are unavoidable, Matibag said the meeting was meant to organize the party and elect a new set of officers.
"This is normal like any other party," he said.
Matibag said they want to strengthen the party and not quarrel with the other parties, particularly the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. whom they support.
Responding to a question, Matibag said the party is ready to welcome back in its fold Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III and former Sen. Manny Pacquiao but there are still unresolved issues in court that must be settled.
