Netflix Korea officially announced the dark fantasy series Hellbound has been renewed for a second season.

Written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan), Hellbound is based on the popular webtoon of the same name. Set in the heart of Seoul, it depicts supernatural beings as grim reapers who condemn random individuals to hell.

Amid the terror is a rising religious cult, The New Truth, whose members say everything that happens is the will of God.

They also claim an ability to predict when people will die. Their followers, dubbed The Arrowhead, participate in punishing the sinners.

Speaking at media conference, Sang-ho described Hellbound's characters: "They have different convictions and they have different emotions… I think it's fun to watch them clash. It gives us an opportunity to think about our society."

Three days after season one's release on 19 November 2021, Hellbound posted an accumulated 43.48 million hours viewing time.

It was no. 1 in 12 countries including South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.
