"We will come back leaner but stronger," said Ballet Manila artistic director and CEO Lisa Macuja Elizalde, as the dance company returns onstage with Rise! on 7 and 9 October at the refurbished Aliw Theater.
Ballet Manila's new show captures the essence of rising through adversities after Aliw was razed by a fire.
It is also a celebration of the return of live performance after two years of restrictions due to the pandemic.
Rise! is a double-header starts with a pop program, "Ballet & Ballads," and culminates with retelling in ballet of the opera La Traviata, choreographed by Macuja-Elizalde.
The show is a rare treat for fans as it combines ballet, popular music, OPM, and orchestral music.
Headlining the singers are Bituin Escalante, Jade Riccio and Ivan Nery are also headlining the show.
Gerard Salonga is musical director and conductor of a 60-piece orchestra and a 12-member opera ensemble. Michael Williams is stage director, Luna Inocian as scriptwriter, and Gerardo Francisco Jr. and Martin Lawrance are the choreographers.
"It's great to be back with a real live performance. There's nothing like live performances after two years of video, filmmaking, and teaching ballet online. They say seeing is believing. We can do it and we have done it. Yes, we will soar. We all need each other to make this happen, not just Aliw, Ballet Manila, but all of the creative industries. We are here for you and we can do this together," said Macuja-Elizalde.
Rise! goes onstage on 7 October at 8 p.m. and 9 October at 5 p.m. at the Aliw Theater.
