The government of the United Kingdom vowed to continue supporting military education and training exchanges of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
The UK's commitment was made after British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beafils and Non-Resident British Defense Attaché to the Philippines Capt. Graeme Davis paid a courtesy call to AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro on Thursday, 1 September at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City.
Beaufils is also considering the need for long-term and short-term agreements that "will further enhance defense cooperation" between the Philippines and the UK.
Bacarro noted that he appreciates how the UK supports the country in its position in the West Philippine Sea as well as sponsoring military education and training exchanges.
Meanwhile, both sides agreed on the importance of developing cooperation and boosting regional dynamics to push bilateral opportunities.
Both countries shared a long history of interaction since Sir Francis Drake landed in Mindanao in 1579 after an almost three-year circumnavigational voyage on board the Golden Hind.
They are likewise tied over the Philippines-United Kingdom Joint Plan of Action signed in Manila on 11 December 2012, a bilateral cooperation document covering key areas on political, economic, consular and law enforcement, cultural, as well as regional and global issues.
