The Department of Justice disclosed that it has already issued an order to the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate the fake appointment documents of a certain Abraham Espejo at the Bureau of Immigration.
DoJ spokesperson and Undersecretary Atty. Mico Clavano stressed that there is a need to investigate the matter because the said appointment document does not appear at the Office of the President.
"The DoJ has already directed the NBI to investigated the said fake appointment documents because it creates an atmosphere of confusion and if found to be true those responsible face 12 to 20 years in jail (reclusion perpetua) under the provision of the Revised Penal Code Section 161 for forgery," said Clavano.
He added that the case is no small matter as it allegedly forged the signature of the President of the Republic and the case has a corresponding jail time.
Clavano said Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla and Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos ordered the NBI and the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation Group to determine who are behind the forged documents and their intention.
