Gamber thrilled to join Ateneo

Filipino-American recruit Kyle Gamber couldn't wait to don Ateneo de Manila University jersey in the men's basketball event of Season 86 of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

In a press briefing yesterday, the 17-year-old playmaker from Polytech High School in Delaware admitted that he really wanted to join the Blue Eagles, but he only had chance when he talked to their coach, Tab Baldwin.

"Even before talking to Coach Tab, I've always wanted to choose Ateneo. But talking to him made me further my interest because he explained the environment, the people in Ateneo, and the basketball plan," Gamber said.

"I just felt that it was the perfect fit for me and I'll be able to fit into their system and play to the best of my ability."

Last week, another Fil-Am guard in Jared Brown was introduced and will also play for Ateneo in 2023.

In his junior year with Polytech, Gamber posted glowing averages of 30.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 0.5 blocks in two games.

Baldwin said having a 6-foot-4 guard in Gamber will be their biggest advantage.

"Kyle himself is very much an all-purpose guard," he said.

"He's a big guard at 6-foot-4 pushing 6-foot-5. He is a guy who is very comfortable with the ball in his hand but he's also a guy who understands the game."
