Sierra Madre trooper undergoes medical evac

One of the soldiers stationed on the marooned BRP Sierra Madre (LS57), which serves as an outpost in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) amid a territorial conflict, went through an emergency medical evacuation.
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) special spokesperson for the WPS, Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, said the operation was carried out on one of the personnel who required immediate medical attention.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), through the Western Command, is closely monitoring and facilitating the emergency medical evacuation of one of its personnel aboard the BRP Sierra Madre (LS57), who required immediate medical attention due to a prior medical condition,” the AFP statement Trinidad gave to the Daily Tribune said.

“The personnel has received initial medical management and remains under observation while arrangements for his emergency evacuation are being facilitated,” it added.
Trinidad said the AFP is closely coordinating with the Philippine Coast Guard and other concerned agencies to ensure the patient’s safe and timely extraction and transfer to an appropriate medical facility for further assessment and treatment.
“The AFP remains focused on the health, safety and welfare of its personnel. Every necessary measure is being taken to ensure that the patient receives the medical attention and care he needs at the soonest possible time,” Trinidad said.
