Unfriendly neighbor

An Albany, New York man who used to live in his sister’s house was forced to move out in October so she and her partner could have their privacy.

Timothy Walters, who worked as head custodian at Hackett Middle School, told his sister that he had found an apartment.

The 36-year-old janitor placed several beds, a mini fridge, and assorted furniture in the studio where his four teen children stayed with him on weekends when he had custody of them, the New York Post (NYP) reported.

Walters, however, was suspended from work without pay in April and quit his job in June when Albany City School District officials, who were investigating custodians suspected of padding overtime claims, found out he was using the vacant fourth-floor room above the school’s auditorium as his home.

The janitor claimed his salary was not enough to rent a place because he pays child support.

He is now living with an uncle in a trailer park, while his sister set up a GoFundMe to help him set up new housekeeping, NYP reports.

Meanwhile, residents of an upscale community in Bayside, Queens, New York, complained about a neighbor who moved into a home on 205th Street in March 2024, saying they were “apprehensive, uneasy and very concerned” about the new occupant.

The residents reported Vernon Glass to the police who, with borough officials and even the court, tried to evict him, to no avail. They claimed that Glass was squatting in the $1.1-million house that had belonged to long-time resident Richard Klibschon who died in 2018. Klibschon had no family and lived alone.

Congressman Tom Suozzi sided with the residents, branding Glass a con man and telling NYP, “A fraudster is wrecking the quality of life for the entire neighborhood. While it’s not a federal issue, we all need to do everything we can to right this wrong.”

NYP tried to get the side of Glass on 6 September but he yelled at the reporter to get off his property.
