Meanwhile in the 3x3 event, Gilas Women defeated Malaysia, 17-12, to clinch an outright quarterfinal seat.

Kacey dela Rosa was back in her dominating ways, scoring eight points while pulling down seven rebounds and tallying two blocks as the Pinays swept all three games in Pool C.

Maria Pasilang had six points and seven boards for Gilas Women.

Malaysia fell to a 2-1 slate and will face Japan in the play-in.

The Filipinas aim for a breakthrough semifinal stint after their quarters exit in the pandemic-delayed Hangzhou edition three years ago.

But taking down the Taiwanese is a daunting task for the BT Toews-mentored squad.

Gilas Women landed as the No. 5 seed behind fourth-seeded Chinese Taipei after the elimination round.

Both teams took similar routes into the round, with the Philippines placing second in Group B following its wins over Kazakhstan, 86-58, and Hong Kong, 90-73.

Gilas Women, however, hit a brick wall in a 67-89 drubbing at the hands of the Japanese’ outside sniping spree.
