Scores dead, missing in Coron ferry inferno
Six of the rescued passengers had been discharged from the hospital, while 33 remained confined.

AFTER the fire The charred remains of the MV June Aster are seen in the waters off Coron, Palawan, on 10 September, after the ferry caught fire a day earlier. The Philippine Coast Guard reported fatalities, survivors rescued and people still missing as search-and-rescue operations (inset) continued. The latest disaster again raises questions about maritime safety in a country where deadly ferry tragedies, including the 2023 Lady Mary Joy 3 fire and 2025 Trisha Kerstin 3 sinking, have claimed scores of lives.
