Seven Filipino seafarers from the M/T Burgan, a Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker targeted in an attack while crossing the Strait of Hormuz, returned to the Philippines on Monday, 7 September.

The seafarers arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City aboard Emirates Flight EK2520.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) assisted the seafarers upon arrival, providing airport, welfare and special financial assistance.

Together with their licensed manning agency, OWWA and DMW also arranged medical checkups, temporary accommodation and onward travel to allow the seafarers to return to their respective families.

OWWA said assistance would continue through its Regional Welfare Offices in the seafarers’ home communities, including access to welfare and reintegration services based on their needs and qualifications.
