  • The Department of Transportation (DoTr) and the Villar Group are scheduled to sign an agreement on 10 September to resolve a land dispute that has stalled construction on the final segment of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

The agreement will enable the government to advance work on the planned Las Piñas station, part of the uncompleted stretch leading toward Zapote and Niog in Bacoor, Cavite.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez previously stated that construction on the remaining section is targeted to resume before the end of the year.

The government requires 8,389 square meters of land for the Las Piñas and Zapote stations.

As part of the upcoming agreement, the Villar Group will donate approximately 4,990 square meters for the Las Piñas station.

The project is proposed to receive P1.17 billion under the 2027 national budget, an increase from its P799.64 million allocation this year.

The entire LRT-1 Cavite Extension covers 11.7 kilometers from Baclaran to the Niog Station in Bacoor. The first five stations, extending to the Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque, have been operational since November 2024.

Completion of the remaining section is expected to expand light rail services into southern Metro Manila and Cavite following years of delays linked to right-of-way acquisitions.
